December 9, 2007 - The Second Sunday of Advent

Posted by trinitycolumbus on 11th December 2007

The Christmas creche has a long history in Western Christianity, reaching back to 1223, during the ministry of St. Francis of Assisi. The creche figures in the set used at Trinity Church come from a set that was crafted in Marseilles, France, circa 1835. Trinity recently acquired five creche figures that were part of the original set of 46 figures, bringing the total number of figures we have to 27 (see the article on this in the December Chimes).

On this day the congregation joined the The Rev. Richard A. Burnett in the Trinity chapel for the homily. The Rector spoke on the history and significance of the creche, and parishoner Jim Bliek spoke on the history of Trinity’s creche figures, and presented the five new pieces to the congregation.

Readings for this day:

Isaiah 11:1-10

Romans 15:4-13

Matthew 3:1-12

Psalm 72:1-7, 18-19
